Youth workshops for middle and high school students are held biweekly on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month from 5:00PM – 7:00PM. UWEAST works alongside its youth to foster individual, community and intergenerational awareness through art, cultural activities and open dialogue.
Young East African Scholars is a program targeting males, which meets every Thursday from 5:00PM – 7:30PM. It offers skills development and leadership training within the context of our culture and traditions. Examples of workshops include financial literacy, mental health awareness, sports and most recently, involvement in a hookah prevention campaign.
UWEAST offers a culturally tailored Girl Scouts program for East African adolescent girls, which meets on Monday evenings from 5:00PM – 7:30PM. Through the program, girls are prepared for a lifetime of leadership by fostering skills such as independence, civic engagement, maintaining healthy relationships, and financial responsibility.
In partnership with AJA Project, young East African girls are trained in film making and photography to share their stories and capture those of our community.
